Conscious Design that integrates our thinking, feeling, intuiting, doing is key to craft happy life as well as conscious organizations and conscious societies

In coming decade, I foresee the field of Design evolving and expanding in 2 strategic ways:

  1. As we recover from Covid19 we need to design not only new products services, processes, and experiences (with emphasis on safety, health, sustainability), but we also need to design:
    - new organizational structures (to accommodate virtualized/decentralized workplaces and drive bottom-up innovation)
    - new wise & resilient leadership models that foster diversity and thrive on ambiguity (see: https://naviradjou.medium.com/wise-leadership-the-foundation-of-21st-century-organizations-ec82e3a37b2e)
    - new collaborative industry value networks (that encourage co-creation rather than competition: https://naviradjou.medium.com/1-1-11-the-profitable-arithmetic-of-co-creation-94ad27f884f3)
    - new inclusive/regenerative socio-economic ecosystems like frugal economy (see https://lnkd.in/gASaQCt

2021 has arrived. Time for (inner) cleaning!

I began my clean(s)ing in October 2019. After living in the Bay Area for 13 years, I sensed I needed a big shift in my life. I decided to relocate to New York.

I was living in Palo Alto in a cozy 1,600 square feet apartment that cost me a fortune to rent. But I was earning decent income so I could afford it. Over the years, I had accumulated a lot of stuff: my house was filled with 2,000+ books and precious artwork collected from all over the world. …

Since my childhood, I have had severe panic attacks. They affected my studies and my work life. After each episode of anxiety, I would tell myself “Phew, I survived this. Now let’s get back to work.” Indeed, my work became my savior because it kept me mentally busy. Yet, in 2006, when I was 36, I had severe burnout symptoms: I couldn’t sleep, I had lost a lot of weight, my mind was very restless. I saw many western doctors. But none of them could heal me.

Heeding my intuition, I went to a wellness center in California that offered…

Do the POST-VITAM exercise to end 2020 positively.

After a crisis, individuals and organizations do POST-MORTEM to identify the root cause of what went *wrong* so we avoid a similar crisis in future. Sadly, rather than enable introspection & growth, Post-Mortem leads to Victimization and Blame.

Instead, I suggest you practice POST-VITAM.

Identify what you did *right* in 2020 that made you come ALIVE during Covid-19 crisis and reflect on how you can *amplify* these factors in 2021.

I did my own Post-Vitam and learned a lot about myself. In Q1, all my speaking engagements got cancelled, and my income…

Remember the boiling frog parable ?

Given the dual socio-ecological urgency we face, the United Nations should boldly rename its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as… 2021 Agenda for Sustainable Development to compel its member countries to achieve its 17 SDGs as early as 2021.

And the United Nations Global Compact can put similar pressure on its member companies.

These firms can learn from Decathlon, the world’s largest sports retailer, which boldly renamed its Vision 2030 as Vision 2021 so it can engage all its employees and ecosystem partners to co-build inclusive/regenerative communities worldwide starting in 2021 rather than wait…

Metanoia is the art of soulful self-transformation

CEOs worry about the shape of recovery in 2021: V, U, W, or L? The V-shaped recovery, while most desirable, is out of question according to the Fed and OECD.

Rather than passively dream about a V-shaped recovery of the whole economy, which is beyond their control, CEOs must proactively lead a Y-shaped transformation of their organization. Such a conscious and deep reinvention will enable their business to achieve sustainable success in the post Covid-19 world.

95% of companies today operate in survival mode. They are investing all their energy to “pivot”, that is they are tactically adapting their traditional…

Why am I hopeful about the future ?

Because last summer, while I was living in Silicon Valley, I met my friend’s super-super bright daughter, a sophomore at MIT studying for a dual-degree.

She was interning at a Big Tech firm in SV that makes cute but expensive consumer electronics.

I asked her if she intends to go work for this Big Tech firm after graduating from MIT. She said: “I did this internship because I was curious to learn about Big Tech firms. Now, I know what they are like. After graduation, I don’t want to go work for…
