In my upcoming book The Frugal Economy, I make a very strong case for the DECENTRALIZATION of everything.

Specifically, we need to urgently decentralize 4 vital systems all our societies and economies critically depend on:

  1. IT infrastructure and networks (to gain in resilience)
  2. Supply chain operations (to boost both agility and efficiency)
  3. Workforce (avoid concentrating thousands of employees in a huge campus)
  4. Political and macro-economic governance (the need for cooperative federalism)

In a VUCA world characterized by terrorist attacks and cyber-warfare, having centralized IT, supply chain, and workforce will become the Achille’s Heel of Big Corporations and nations (as we experienced painfully after 9/11 and during COVID-19).

To avoid the crippling of our society’s mission-critical systems by a global IT outage as it just happened, businesses and policy-makers must seriously consider DECENTRALIZING their operations.

Read also the World Economic Forum article arguing in favor of decentralization of business operations.
