In 2024, Kamala Harris should focus her climate plan on people and places — as she did in 2019

In summer 2019 when she ran for the highest office for first time, Kamala Harris unveiled a $10 trillion climate plan to fight global warming and create millions of jobs in the US.

The 2019 plan aimed to achieve 100% carbon-neutral electricity by 2030

The plan would also fully implement “science-based agricultural conservation practices by 2040,” as part of a “climate-smart agriculture” strategy.

Harris’ 2019 climate plan put people and places (communities) in par with the planet — arguing that the fight against climate change needs to benefit individuals, especially in left-behind places in America’s hinterland.

Her proposal allocated up to $8,000 each for unemployed, dislocated or underemployed workers for skills and education training to create jobs in the green economy.

As I explain in my World Economic Forum article, businesses and nations need to adopt a holistic climate strategy that I call Triple Regeneration to revitalize People, Places, and the Planet synergistically.

I hope Harris’ 2024 climate plan will also emphasize the people and places dimensions and show how to smartly use climate investments to improve the quality of life of all Americans and revitalize left-behind communities.
