Let’s celebrate 75 women scholars to mark India’s 75th Independence Day
I congratulate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inviting 150 universities across India to publish 150 scholarly papers on different aspects of Sri Aurobindo’s life and philosophy
These 150 papers would be published on 15 August 2022, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, a great Indian spiritual leader and philosopher who conceptualized “Integral Yoga”
I would humbly request PM Modi to ensure that 75 of these 150 papers (half of them) are authored by WOMEN SCHOLARS from across India.
Referring to The Mother, his spiritual collaborator, Sri Aurobindo himself had said: “The Mother’s consciousness and mine are the same, the one Divine Consciousness in two, because that is necessary for the play. Nothing can be done without her knowledge and force, without her consciousness — if anybody really feels her consciousness, he should know that I am there behind it and if he feels me it is the same with hers."
As this article explains, in ancient times, Indian women were revered as scholars, especially in philosophy and metaphysics.
The Rig Veda, the oldest Vedic Sanskrit text, refers to (and praises) over 30 Rishikas (women sages): https://lnkd.in/dz9JN2ie
One of these women sages is named ADITI, meaning the “Independent One” (aka The Boundless One or the Infinite One).
August 15, 2022 marks not only Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary but also India’s 75th Independence Day (India gained independence from British colonial rule 75 years ago in 1947)
As such, it would be fitting to celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, who fought for India’s independence, by inviting 75 women scholars to showcase their independent thinking by publishing 75 scholarly articles on Sri Aurobindo and his teachings in 2022.
